Starting Date:

Oct 1994

MIPS Project Challenge:
Lockheed sought help from MIPS-supported researchers to improve the quality assessment of shape memory alloys.

Project Scope:
University researchers developed a prototype smart tool post for machine tools that can selftune to compensate for vibration during the cutting process, resulting in a much smoother cut.

Lockheed and MIPS have collaborated on a total of eleven projects. Lockheed and Martin Marietta merged in 1995.
